Submitted by Monica Macfarlane
The political science department invites the K-State community to attend the "Rethinking U.S. Policy Towards Sports" presentation from 2-3:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, in the Wildcat Chamber of the K-State Student Union.
The presenter, Travis Murphy, is the founder and CEO of Jetr Global Sports + Entertainment and a K-State alumnus. Murphy's career has spanned more than two decades working in and with governments around the world. Murphy has served as a sports executive, American diplomat and the chief of staff for a member of Congress. Most recently, Murphy oversaw international government affairs for the NBA, the world’s most popular sports league, creating an innovative process of tracking and streamlining thousands of visa and passport cases around the world.
In his talk, "Rethinking U.S. Policy Toward Sports," Murphy advocates for the creation of a Special Envoy for Sports Diplomacy, under the current landscape of the United States' upcoming hosting of World Cup 2026, the 2026 Summer Olympics and upcoming bids for other global mega-sporting events.
