College of Agriculture celebrates first Feeding Your Future camp
This summer marked the successful launch of the inaugural Feeding Your Future Summer Camp, a collaborative effort between the Department of Grain Science and Industry and the Department of Agronomy. This camp, held July 16-20, brought together 31 high school students from across the country, including Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Maine, Pennsylvania and Kansas. Designed to educate students about the journey of grain from farm to table, this four-day experience aimed to spark interest in K-State’s innovative programs.
Campers began their journey by learning about the future of agriculture at the Agronomy Education Center, where they were introduced to cutting-edge farming technology and techniques. They then moved on to process their discoveries in the baking lab, Hal Ross Flour Mill and Bioprocessing and Industrial Value Added Innovation Center to witness the intricate workings of grain processing firsthand.
At the O.H. Kruse Feed Technology and Innovation Center students formulated feed for poultry, gaining practical experience in feed technology. With the pet food program they made and took home treats for their pets, adding a fun and personal touch to their learning experience.
The camp provided a comprehensive overview of the grain industry, from cultivating crops to processing and formulating end products. It offered students the chance to explore various career opportunities and network with industry professionals to broaden their understanding of the field.
Feeding Your Future was a week of dynamic learning and growth, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
