Baird invited to serve on Sociologists for Women in Society rebuilding committee
Chardie Baird, professor of sociology, executive director for the K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering, or KAWSE, and Spainhour Family Chair, has been asked to serve on a rebuilding committee for an international professional sociological association, Sociologists for Women in Society.
Sociologists for Women in Society is one of the most progressive organizations in sociology, and its members are the top scholars in equity analysis in sociology in a myriad of areas, including institutions of higher education. By serving on this committee, Baird will be deeply involved in the process of rebuilding an organization to be more inclusive and learn about the best practices for doing so.
The society's leadership launched a rebuilding and regenerating process earlier this year with the aim of creating a more inclusive, thriving and responsive feminist membership organization. Members voted in June 2024 to modify the SWS bylaws and begin the associationwide rebuilding effort. Learn more on the society's website.
Baird, who has been a member of SWS since 1988, is honored to serve on the rebuilding committee as it builds a stronger, more inclusive organization that lives up to its fundamental feminist principles. Baird has also served on the editorial board for Gender & Society, one of the top journals in gender studies and sociology that is housed in the Sociologists for Women in Society, as well as a referee for Gender & Society manuscripts.
