Submitted by Kevin Cook

Thomas Lane, vice president of academic success and student affairs and dean of students at Kansas State University, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Kent L. Gardner Award by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. This award is presented annually to a senior university administrator who has demonstrated a continued commitment to the advancement of fraternities and sororities.

Award nominators shared that Lane has been instrumental in the success and growth of the fraternity and sorority community at Kansas State University. Nominators also remarked that Lane's leadership and dedication were key in reaffiliating K-State's fraternity and sorority life with the university after a seven-year period of disaffiliation.

"Dr. Lane's unwavering dedication, support and genuine care for students have made a mark on our university and our Greek life community," said Lucas Caldas, president of the Interfraternity Council. "His leadership and friendship have been invaluable."

Tim Lindemuth, past president of the Kansas State University Alumni Fraternity Council, also expressed his admiration, stating, "Dr. Lane's openness and frequent meetings with students to discuss reaffiliation were simply amazing. His genuine and direct candor made the marriage between Greek life and the university happen and become a success."

Nominators also shared that beyond his administrative contributions, Lane is known for his personal connection with students, regularly attending events, mentoring fraternity and sorority leaders, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

"Using his position to advocate, while also humbly asking questions to ensure the university was making an intentional structure to support our 35 organizations and more than 3,100 students, was a testament to his character and care for Kansas State," said Alexandria Wilson, assistant director, fraternity and sorority life.

Upon learning of his selection, Lane said, "This achievement reflects the shared efforts of the students, alumni and colleagues who have supported our fraternity and sorority community at K-State. I'm grateful for their dedication in helping reestablish this important partnership and for the positive impact we've made and continue to make together."
