Voice students place at regional auditions

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Voice students from the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance took part in the West Central Regional Auditions sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing, or NATS.

This is the only opportunity students studying voice have to present their performances for adjudication outside of K-State. NATS is the flagship association for voice teaching specialists, and students who place in the regional auditions are able to submit performances for the national auditions. The West Central Regional Auditions are made up of colleges from Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming and rotate each year to a difference college campus. This year, they were held at Wichita State University. Students present their repertoire at the preliminary round on Friday, and if they advance, continue to compete on Saturday through semifinals and then the final round, which includes a monetary award.

Due to a generous grant from the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, the K-State voice area took 48 singers. Of those singers, 25 advanced to the semifinals and 15 to the final round.

Those who advanced to semifinals are Ava Sedlecek, Annika Lindt, Lizzy Haller, Katie Beck, Natalie Denton, Evan Beaty, Addison Zeiler, Dylan Dean, Sydney Muder, Corbin Montenegro, Belle Chavey, Josey Bartlett and Abbigail Rakes and Vivi Kappel.

  • Freshman Musical Theatre: Augusta Miller, second; Brynleigh Childers, fourth, Jewels Noland, fifth
  • Freshman Classical: Brennan Turman, first, Ethan Hamilton, fourth
