Raghavendra Amachawadi named 2024 International Educator of the Year
Raghavendra Amachawadi, associate professor in the department of clinical sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, is the 2024 International Educator of the Year.
K-State created the International Educator of the Year Award in 2003, established by the provost's office and implemented by the Office of International Programs, known as OIP. We recognize Amachawadi now during International Education Week 2024, and the award will be presented to Amachawadi during the All-University Awards Ceremony in spring 2025.
This award recognizes an individual who has contributed and sustained commitment to advancing international education at the university.
"I am truly honored and humbled to receive this recognition from the Office of International Programs," Amachawadi said. "Working with international students has been a rewarding experience, where learning extends beyond textbooks to encompass the wisdom and experiences of diverse cultures. They enrich our community and foster cross-cultural understanding, enhancing our educational experience for everyone. This award highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion, which I believe are essential to creating a more connected and compassionate world."
One nominator said, "Dr. Amachawadi has consistently demonstrated a remarkably strong commitment to engagement with international entities with an aim to facilitate a culturally diverse education experience for global collaboration and training while also cultivating an engaging spirt for K-State students to learn about international training opportunities."
Another nominator said, "Raghu has the passion, patience, generosity, and more importantly, an understanding of the language and cultural barriers of international students to be able to break down the barriers to be an effective communicator and educator."
"Dr. Amachawadi's excellent record of mentorship to students — including international students, outstanding collaborative international research, and global engagement by hosting and welcoming international scholars and visitors to K-State — makes him the perfect choice for this year's international educator of the year," said Grant Chapman, associate provost for international programs.
The Office of International Programs recognizes the International Educator of the Year during International Education Week each year. International Education Week runs from Nov. 10-22 at Kansas State University.
