College of Veterinary Medicine receives Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award
The Office of International Programs recognizes the College of Veterinary Medicine with the 2024 Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award as part of International Education Week at Kansas State University, Nov. 10-22.
The Office of International Programs established the award in 2013 to recognize additional globally engaged areas within the K-State community. Given by the Office of International Programs' leadership team, this recognition is announced annually during the International Education Week celebration to recognize a K-State department, unit or organization that has gone above and beyond in global engagement, in support of international initiatives and/or in serving a global student or faculty body in extraordinary ways.
The College of Veterinary Medicine develops and implements study abroad experiences for its students. This is not an easy task, as the rigor of the program does not lend itself to much time away for the students and faculty. Additionally, many of the study abroad experiences are to countries with much need for greater development of their animal health infrastructures and professionals. The College of Veterinary Medicine also promotes general education abroad and service opportunities for their students.
K-State's veterinary medicine college is one of the leading colleges for international research, collaboration, publication citation. The college's faculty conduct research of a high caliber and are consistently seen as global leaders in their various research fields of study.
The College of Veterinary Medicine consistently recruits international students for its programs and other K-State undergraduate and graduate programs. It has also developed feeder programs like the joint program with veterinary medicine and agriculture colleges in China and the U.S. The college hosts many international scholars, visitors and researchers each year.
"We recognize the College of Veterinary Medicine for its education abroad and joint program innovations as well as its international research and global engagement profile," said Grant Chapman, associate provost for international programs at K-State.
"I am grateful to the faculty, staff and students who contribute to the success of international exchange programs in the College of Veterinary Medicine," said Bonnie Rush, Hodes family dean and professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine. "The common goals of our initiatives are to strengthen the capacity for veterinary services in specific regions of the world and to provide opportunities for cultural insight through educational experiences."
