Powercat Motorsports wins Formula Wheat competition
Kansas State University's Powercat Motorsports team hosted and won its second annual Formula Wheat event in Manhattan at Tuttle Creek Spillway in a weekend event held Oct. 19-20.
The team took first place overall as well as winning each of the four individual categories: acceleration, skid pad, autocross and endurance. Rounding out the top three overall were Iowa State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The club also won at last year's Formula Wheat competition.
Formula Wheat was created to be an unofficial competition that imitates a traditional Formula Society of Automotive Engineers event, giving each team additional experience while helping to raise the national profile of Powercat Motorsports, K-State's SAE Formula race team.
Powercat Motorsports is a sponsored student organization in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, and the event was planned and run by the team with help from alumni.
Outside of the top three finishers, the University of Colorado-Boulder, Colorado State University, the University of Kansas, Washington University in St. Louis and Wichita State University all made the trip to Manhattan to compete in the event.
In May 2024, Powercat Motorsports finished in 10th place at Formula SAE Michigan, its best finish in club history.
