Free Online Course Design Institute offered to assist those teaching or developing online courses
The Online Course Design Institute is an eight-week experience for K-State instructors and graduate students who are currently teaching or planning to develop an online course in the next year. The institute is offered completely online to provide instructors the opportunity of experiencing the learner's perspective.
The spring 2025 institute will begin on Feb. 3. Those interested in the institute can register online.
The course covers best practices for teaching online while providing practical applications. Through the course, participants will gain higher confidence in the ability to teach online. Participants completing all requirements will earn a certificate of completion.
This program uses a Backward Design model to guide learners through drafting course goals and objectives, course mapping, and designing assignments and assessments. Participants will engage in three weekly modules and then work one-on-one with an instructional designer to fully design and develop an online course. This will provide opportunities for personalized feedback.
- Module 1: Course Goals and Objectives
- Module 2: Teaching Philosophies and Communication
- Module 3: Technology and Teaching
- Module 4: Course Development
The institute is provided at no cost, but limited seats are available. Basic knowledge of Canvas is required. If you need Canvas training prior to the institute or have any questions about the program, please contact the Center for Academic Innovation instructional designers, or Josh Krohn at K-State Salina.
