Krishna Ghimire and Brian Herrin recognized as Professors of the Week
Krishna Ghimire, teaching associate professor in the College of Engineering, and Brian Herrin, associate professor in the department of diagnostic medicine/pathobiology, were recognized as Professors of the Week at the Jan. 11 men's home basketball game. Faculty Senate, the Office of the President, K-State Athletics, and the Division of Communications and Marketing wish to recognize their contributions to K-State.
Ghimire, a dedicated advocate for civil engineering education, has made significant contributions to the K-State civil engineering department, where he currently serves as undergraduate program director. His active involvement in various college committees, including Course and Curriculum, Academic Standards, Curriculum and Review, and College Assessment Review, demonstrate his commitment to academic excellence.
Ghimire's passion for teaching is reflected in his innovative instructional methods and dedication to student success. Through close collaboration with civil engineering faculty, he is committed to enhancing the overall undergraduate student experience. His excellence in teaching has been recognized and celebrated by his students and colleagues. Ghimire has received various awards, including the Jeffrey and Joy Lessman Cornerstone Teaching Scholar, Clair A. Mauch Steel Ring Advisor of the Year, TLC Teacher of the Month, and Department of Civil Engineering Above and Beyond Instructor Award.
Herrin conducts research, teaching and outreach activities in an increasingly important area of both animal health and veterinary public health: parasitology. His research team engages in surveillance of ticks and tick-borne diseases of horses, with the goal of documenting the burden of ticks on horses and the medical risk they pose. This, in turn, helps Herrin and his colleagues better advocate for enhanced, longer-lasting tick control for horses.
Herrin is also an expert on the epidemiology of Lyme Disease and is involved in flea-related research. His current projects include the evaluation of insecticidal products as a means to control home infestations with fleas and the management of flea allergy dermatitis. Herrin has been featured in the press as a subject matter expert on such topics as the alpha-gal syndrome, whereby some bitten by the Lone Star tick develop a food allergy to beef products.
The Professor of the Week recognition is coordinated by Faculty Senate, the president's office, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing. Recipients are faculty members selected by Faculty Senate caucuses. Those selected are provided tickets to a men's or women's home basketball game of their choosing and are recognized during halftime. This is just a small token of appreciation for those who teach at K-State.
