Fraternity and Sorority Life celebrates community achievements

Fraternity and Sorority Life is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of its members over the winter months. These accomplishments reflect the dedication, leadership and excellence that define Fraternity and Sorority Life. 

Thomas Lane, vice president of the Division of Academic Support and Student Success, dean of students and a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, was awarded the esteemed Kent L. Gardner Award at the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors Annual Meeting. This award acknowledges Lane’s remarkable contributions to the field of fraternity and sorority life, including his leadership, advocacy and commitment to student development.

Hugh Sidabutar, Fraternity and Sorority Life graduate assistant, panhellenic co-advisor, and Acacia Fraternity member, won second place in the crisis intervention track of the Order of Omega's Case Study Competition at the AFA Annual Meeting with his partner, Thomas Bynum. 

Additionally, Hugh was selected as a graduate intern for the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values Central Conference, the largest and most diverse gathering of fraternal stakeholders in the country, with more than 2,300 participants from more than 150 campuses.

Hugh was also chosen as the 2025 summer graduate intern with the University of Florida's Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life in Gainesville, Florida. Through this experience, he will assist with presentations and tabling during university orientation sessions, attend weekly staff meetings, participate in benchmarking efforts, develop curriculum for fall leadership programs, advise the Florida Greek Ambassador Team, and help plan fall IFC and PHC recruitment, among other duties.

Margaret Tippie, Fraternity and Sorority Life assistant director, panhellenic advisor and a member of Delta Phi Epsilon, won first place in the systemic issues track of the Order of Omega's Case Study Competition at the AFA Annual Meeting with her partner, Virginia Felton. 

While attending AFLV Central Laura El-Koubysi, panhellenic vice president of health and safety and Chi Omega member, and Delainie Hundley, panhellenic vice president of community wellness and Gamma Phi Beta member,  won second place in their Order of Omega Case Study track.

Kansas State Interfraternity Council was honored with the 2024 Outstanding Peer Governance and Outstanding Community Impact Award through the North American Interfraternity Conference’s Annual Awards of Distinction. 

Alexandria Wilson, Fraternity and Sorority Life assistant director, Interfraternity Council Advisor and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, was recognized as a 2024 Outstanding IFC Advisor through the North American Interfraternity Conference Annual Awards of Distinction. 

These milestones exemplify the impact of fraternity and sorority life on our campus and within our communities nationwide. As we continue into the new year, we look forward to furthering our mission of fostering achievement, leadership, engagement and wellness throughout the community.
