Two one-act operas in one night presented March 6-9

The K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance presents two one-act operas in one night at 7:30 p.m. on March 6-8 and at 2:30 p.m. on March 9 in Chapman Theater, Nichols Hall. "Slow Dusk" by Carlisle Floyd depicts Aunt Sue worrying that her niece Sadie will marry Micah Hatfield, a young farmer with values and beliefs different than their own.
"Gallantry" by Douglas Moore is a comical soap opera centered on a hospital love triangle complete with operatic commercial interruptions. Four casts will be performing the pieces featuring some of K-State's best vocalists.
With musical direction by Reginald Pittman, piano by Song Hwa Chae and stage direction by Jerry Jay Cranford, the Thursday and Saturday performances feature music students Anna Purvis, Evan Beaty, Amaya Dungun and Chris Melton in "Slow Dusk."
The Thursday and Saturday performances of "Gallantry" feature Sarah Keary, Devlyn Jochum and Carter Keesecker; Jason Casey, Donovan Tucker and Miguel Hulbert will be in all performances.
On Friday and Sunday, "Slow Dusk" features Maggie Masoner, Brennan Turman, Calista Stegner and Trigg Galle; and "Gallantry" features Kiara Islam, Dylan Dean and Lloyd Dodson.
From the theatre department, the student stage managers are Daphne Crews and Hannah Kisby, with student designers Bernie Poulter, costumes; Chris Park, props; and Angelika Velez Hernandez, sound. Other theatre faculty working on the production are professors Ann Dee Alvidrez, scenic design; James Davis, sound supervisor; Melissa Nelville, costume shop manager; and George Matthews, scene shop manager.
