Silver Key elects new executive board
Members of Silver Key Sophomore Honorary recently elected their new executive team.
The following students will serve as Silver Key officers for the 2023-2024 academic year:
Cam Vaughn, Lawerence, will serve as Silver Key president. Her majors are animal science, pre-veterinary option and business with minors in chemistry and leadership.
Cappi Hoeting, Stockton, will serve as vice president of membership. Her majors are agricultural communications and journalism with a secondary major in global food systems leadership.
Katie Albertson, Stilwell, will serve as vice president of finance. Her major is organization management, pre-law option.
Morgan Tempel, Castle Rock, Colorado, will serve as vice president of public relations. Her major is animal science, pre-veterinary option.
Paige Ferris, Omaha, Nebraska, will serve as secretary. Her major is animal science, pre-veterinary option
Rachel Canizares, McPherson, and Adela Lipari, Stilwell, will serve as keyshines. Canizares is majoring in life sciences, pre-nursing option. Lipari is majoring in human resources management, pre-law option, as well as minoring in both Spanish and English.
Officer elections were held Aug. 27. Each person who applied for the various positions gave a speech as to why they would best fit the role and voting was held amongst the chapter.
To be eligible to apply for Silver Key, students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, be a 2022 high school graduate and be in their freshman year at the university.
Silver Key members demonstrate their community service and leadership skills by organizing and executing a variety of projects throughout the school year. Past projects have included hosting children from the Boys and Girls Club at K-State Athletics events; partnering with the K-State Recycling Center; writing cards and making quilts for a local veterans' center; collecting donations for the Manhattan Emergency Shelter; highway and neighborhood cleanup efforts; and visits to Stoneybrook and Meadowlark, senior living communities in Manhattan.
