Attend state legislative candidate debates and town hall on campus
The K-State Young Democrats, Riley County Republican Party, political science department and Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy have partnered to host two state legislative debates and a town hall on campus ahead of the 2024 election.
From 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, candidates for House District 67 Democrat Kim Zito and Republican Angel Roeser will debate in the K-State Student Union courtyard, on the bottom level of the Union.
From 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, Democrat Sydney Carlin, the incumbent and unopposed candidate for State House District 66 will participate in a town hall in the Wildcat Chamber in the Union. At the town hall, time is allotted for audience members to ask Carlin questions directly.
From 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, candidates for State Senate District 22 Democrat Usha Reddi and Republican Brad Starnes will return to the Union courtyard for a debate.
Members of the K-State Young Democrats and the Riley County Republican Party will co-moderate the debates, and a member of the Young Democrats will lead the town hall.
Everyone is invited to attend, and faculty are encouraged to promote these forums to their students. As a student-led initiative on campus, one of the goals of these events is to increase K-State student turnout in the 2024 election and promote civic participation.
If you are unable to attend the events in person, they will also be streamed live on the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy's YouTube page.
The last day to register to vote or update your registration is Tuesday, Oct. 15. Early voting starts on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
