K-State Libraries’ science team seeks first-year science graduate students for professional development cohort

Submitted by Ashley Nietfeld

K-State Libraries' science team is launching a professional development cohort for first-year science graduate students. This initiative aims to empower students with essential library research skills and resources to excel in their academic pursuits and beyond.

This innovative workshop series will commence with a pilot cohort of students eager to enhance their professional skills by leveraging the Libraries' extensive resources. Librarians will present on a range of topics, including:

  • Literature review techniques
  • Citation management for organized research
  • Effective reading and note-taking strategies
  • Exploring and evaluating data sources
  • Developing a scholarly identity
  • Generative artificial intelligence tools
  • Navigating the world of scholarly writing and publishing

Additional topics may be introduced based on participants' interests and needs. Librarians will also host an interactive space in Canvas for sharing reflections and engaging in meaningful discussions.

A group of 8-12 graduate students will be selected for this cohort. Weekly, in-person sessions will be held on Thursday afternoons in October.

The K-State Libraries' science team encourages all first-year science graduate students interested in this opportunity to complete the application form by Sept. 27. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Oct. 1.

Questions can be sent via email to the science team at ksul-science@k-state.edu.
