Condia + Ornelas Traveling Fellowship winners to showcase work
The Condia + Ornelas Traveling Fellowship winners Jacob Shreve and Meredith Park, fifth-year graduate students in the architecture department at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning & Design, will showcase their work focused on exploring architectural and cultural significance on a global scale.
An exhibit of their work will be featured from Nov. 3-Dec. 31 in the Cassius Gallery at Regnier Hall.
Shreve's project centered on documenting and critiquing the architectural and cultural relevance of select UNESCO sites throughout France. His itinerary included visits to 10-16 heritage sites, and he engaged with UNESCO officials.
Park's project took her to Japan, where she used Tokyo and Osaka as central points for exploring 15 key sites. Her project focused on the idea of the cityscape as a "massive collage," where different elements react and connect dynamically, creating a spatial masterpiece. Park studied these points of interaction, paying particular attention to the layering and interweaving of elements, both as individual parts and as a cohesive network.
Shreve and Park will present lectures on their experiences at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in Regnier Forum, Room 1117 of Regnier Hall on the K-State Manhattan campus. This event is free and open to the public.
Established in 2020 by K-State Professors Bob Condia and Wendy Ornelas, the Condia + Ornelas Traveling Prize annually supports outstanding graduate students in architecture. The prize exemplifies the value of cross-cultural understanding and the exploration of places beyond one's comfort zone, fostering creativity and innovation in architectural education.
