K-State Agronomy Soils Judging Team wins first place at fall regional contest
The K-State Agronomy Soils Judging Team placed first in the 2024 Fall Regional Soil Judging Contest in Great Bend. Coached by DeAnn Presley, Colby Moorberg and agronomy graduate student Melanie Earl, the team took first place overall and will travel to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for nationals in the spring.
During soils judging events, students compete in two categories: an individual contest and a group judging contest. After completing the events, participants are ranked overall based on both individual and group scores. At the fall 2024 contest, seven schools competed. K-State agronomy students also excelled in the individual categories, with Isaac Nelson earning third place and Kaitlyn Peters placing eighth.
"The agronomy department is proud of the accomplishments of the Soils Judging Team," said Raj Khosla, head of the agronomy department. "Their hard work, dedication and teamwork have paid off. Our faculty excel in mentoring students, and this victory is a testament to their efforts and coaching. Congratulations to the entire team."
