Kansas Music Standard #1: The teacher of music has skills in teaching and evaluation techniques for vocal, instrumental, and general music.

Knowledge

Performance

Through many of my undergraduate classes I have been given opportunities to teach general and band music lessons.  These opportunities have helped me develop techniques to teach and evaluate.  In the vocal setting I have been taught how to teach good vocal technique and have evaluated my peers on the execution of good vocal technique.  In the instrumental setting I have the experience of directing a full concert ensemble.  This setting has given me the chance to listen to and address problems in a full ensemble.  For general music I have had the chance to teach mini lessons to students using the rote method.  I believe experiences have prepared me for teaching in a classroom setting.

Artifacts

-UBand Rehearsal

In this artifact you will see a lesson plan that I wrote and taught for the Kansas State University Band.  This band gives music education majors a full            semester's experience of teaching in a band setting.  This video demonstrates my ability to execute a rehearsal and address ensemble issues.

This artifact is a lesson plan I have created for teaching a speech ostinato in a General Music classroom.  This shows my ability to plan a lesson that lays out a technique for teaching a speech ostinato.  This lesson plan has gone into a step by step plan appropriate for the elementary setting.
