E-scooters return to Manhattan campus

Submitted by Parking Services

Shared electric scooters have returned to Kansas State University and the city of Manhattan through a new partnership with Veo, a shared mobility provider.

Anyone 18 and older can rent dockless scooters throughout the city and on the Manhattan campus. To use the e-scooters, download the Veo app. Unlocking a scooter costs $1, and the fee is 35 cents per minute to ride.

Veo representatives will be on campus to answer questions and demonstrate how to use the e-scooters from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at the K-State Student Union. Riders can receive a $5 credit until the end of March by using the promo code RIDE25. Low-income riders can apply for a discounted rate, and a monthly subscription plan is also available.

How to ride

  • Download the VeoRide app: VeoRide is available on the App Store and Google Play.
  • Find an available scooter: You can locate available scooters using the VeoRide app.
  • Unlock the scooter: Each scooter has a QR code between the handlebars. Scan the QR code with your smartphone to unlock the scooter.
  • Ride: Make sure to follow K-State's scooter guidelines while riding.
  • End ride: Upon completion, riders must park their vehicle in designated parking locations visible and navigable in the Veo app. Riders must take a photo within the app to confirm proper parking. If you do not correctly park the scooter, you will continue to be charged for the ride.

Safe riding tips

  • Yield to pedestrians: Respect pedestrians' right of way and maintain a safe distance while riding. Exercise caution when passing or crossing paths with walkers or joggers.
  • Obey traffic laws: Follow traffic signs and signals and ride with traffic flow.
  • Wear a helmet: Prioritize your safety by wearing a helmet.
  • Ride sober: Riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal.

Motorized scooters are required to follow traffic laws and may be ticketed or arrested for violations. Additional information on e-scooter ordinances and regulations are available on the city of Manhattan and K-State websites. To prioritize rider safety, the e-scooters will be unavailable from 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, to 6 a.m. Sunday, March 9.
