Coetzee awarded Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons fellowship

Hans Coetzee, interim vice president for research and university distinguished professor of veterinary medicine, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or RCVS. This recognition honors Coetzee's exceptional contributions to the field of veterinary science, particularly in advancing animal health and welfare.

The title Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or FRCVS, has been in existence for more than 140 years and is among the highest honors bestowed by the RCVS. It is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and excellence in the veterinary profession. The distinction recognizes Coetzee's innovative research and educational efforts, which have significantly influenced veterinary practices around the world.

Coetzee's work has been instrumental in enhancing the understanding of pain management in farm animals and improving veterinary care standards globally. His commitment to the advancement of veterinary science is evident in his numerous contributions to research, education and clinical practice.

"I am deeply honored and humbled by this fellowship from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons," Coetzee said. "This recognition reflects our research group's shared commitment to improving livestock's well-being through innovative pain assessment and relief methods."

Coetzee's application was supported by Bonnie Rush, Hodes Family dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

"We are incredibly proud of Dr. Coetzee's achievements and this well-deserved recognition," Rush said. "His work has had a profound impact on the health and welfare of production animals, and this fellowship from the RCVS is a testament to his leadership and expertise."
