Reminder: University distinguished professor nominations and Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars applications

Submitted by Tanya González

Dear faculty, department heads, division/school directors and deans,

This is a reminder to consider making applications or nominations to university distinguished professor and the Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars.

University distinguished professor

Nominations for the title of university distinguished professor, or UDP, are due Tuesday, Oct. 1. This opportunity, coordinated through the provost's office in conjunction with the university distinguished professor group, will consider new appointments to this title for 2025. In addition to this distinguished title, each appointee shall receive an enhancement of $12,000 added to their base salaries with funds provided through the provost's office.

The review of nominations will be conducted by the university distinguished professors group, with additional review and input provided by a group of selected university distinguished professors from other Big 12 universities. The selection of the external Big 12 university distinguished professors will be made by the provost.

Read a more detailed description for the selection of university distinguished professors.

Nominations of outstanding faculty who meet the criteria for the title of university distinguished professor can be made to the provost's office by any tenured Kansas State University faculty member. The PDF files containing the entire nomination package, with original signatures, should be submitted to University Distinguished Professor Nominations at udpnominations@k-state.edu by Oct. 1. Late or incomplete nomination packages will not be considered.

Be sure to use the University Distinguished Professors Nomination PDF Checklist before submitting nominations. Please pay special attention to how to name the PDF submission files.

Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars applications

The Coffman Chair for University Distinguished Teaching Scholars award is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding scholarship of teaching and learning exhibited by faculty members in our departments and colleges. The designation of university distinguished teaching scholar is a permanent title and honors not only the individual faculty member but also the department and college in which they teach. The year as Coffman Chair provides an opportunity for the individual selected to share ideas and strategies about teaching and learning with the university at large.

The selection process begins at the department level. Eligible faculty members prepare and submit their portfolios to the department head, the department reviews the portfolios, and then each department head forwards one nomination to the dean by Sept. 15. Each department will set its own internal deadline for receipt of portfolios from the faculty.

Each dean then reviews the portfolios submitted by the departments in their college and may submit two nominations to the provost by the deadline of Oct. 1. All materials should be sent electronically as a PDF file to provounivawards@k-state.edu

The Coffman Chair website describes eligibility criteria, the nomination and selection process, timeline, and the portfolio to be submitted by each nominee. Please share this information with qualified faculty members who might be interested in submitting a portfolio for consideration.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at tgonzale@k-state.edu. We look forward to receiving your portfolios.
