Hale Library records highest gate count numbers since 2017
As the academic year unfolds, the latest statistics from K-State Libraries indicate a significant increase in gate count numbers.
Hale Library recorded a 29% increase in foot traffic in August 2024 compared to the same month last year. This growth suggests students, faculty, staff and community members are increasingly valuing the physical space of the library as a hub for study, collaboration and access to resources.
One contributor to this increase is the new addition of Tutoring Services in Hale Library. This recent partnership has led not only to an increase in foot traffic inside Hale Library but also in tutoring sessions. Tutoring Services has seen a more than 50% increase in the use of their services since last fall.
A second contributor is the steady rise in reservations the library has seen for meeting and collaboration rooms, as well as requests to host workshops, conferences and other events.
"Hale Library's central location and variety of reservable spaces is an appealing destination for students, faculty, staff and administration seeking quiet areas or collaborative environments," said Joe Mocnik, dean of K-State Libraries. "The increase in gate count signifies a growing recognition of the library as an integral part of the academic experience."
K-State Libraries looks forward to welcoming even more visitors not only to Hale Library, but also our branch libraries, as they discover the myriad resources available to support academic success and research.
