Public and K-State community invited to Oct. 16 lecture by 'Deaf Utopia' common read author
Tickets are now open to the general public for the free, hourlong lecture by Nyle DiMarco — the prominent Deaf model, actor and dancer and author of this year's K-State common read, "Deaf Utopia."
DiMarco's lecture is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in McCain Auditorium. A livestream of the lecture will also be available for the Salina and Olathe campuses at these locations:
- Room 119, Tech Center, Salina campus.
- Room 222 A and B, Olathe campus.
DiMarco will be accompanied by Greyson Van Pelt, a sign language interpreter, during his lecture.
Tickets for in-person attendance at the lecture remain available at the McCain box office. Students in a K-State First class should have received tickets through their instructor. Other K-State students, faculty and staff may receive up to three tickets per K-State ID.
Starting Wednesday, Oct. 9, members of the general public may also obtain up to three tickets each at the box office.
Chosen for its perspective on Deaf culture, "Deaf Utopia" is meant to help promote and facilitate campus discussions on the accessibility, inclusivity and identity.
K-State First maintains a list of resources to help organize programming around the book and its themes. Learn more on the K-State First Book website.
