2025 Visionary Plan

Phase 5: Proposed Thematic Goals and Strategic Action Plans

Each theme committee was charged to produce a strategic action plan for a 2025 theme, taking into account the 2025 visionary goal, key benchmarks, common elements, and campus feedback collected last summer/fall.

The Committees were asked to think broadly and boldly, be solution-driven and focused on positive outcomes, and not be constrained by resources in their thinking.

Working separately, each committee produced a thematic strategic action plan in a logic model framework. Together, the Committees have proposed seven thematic goals for K-State 2025 and broad, directional, inter-related action plans linked to each goal.

Each plan includes an overall thematic goal, assumptions upon which the plan is based, outcomes defining expectations for the next five, ten, and fifteen years, and a broad set of activities to support achieving the outcomes.

Proposed Thematic Goals and Strategic Action Plans

(proposed by K-State 2025 Theme Committees)

  1. Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities, and Discovery
    Kansas State University will create a culture of excellence which results in flourishing, sustainable, and widely recognized research, scholarly and creative activities, and discovery (RSCAD) in a variety of disciplines and endeavors.

  2. Undergraduate Educational Experience
    Kansas State University will build a connected, diverse, empowered, engaged, participatory culture of learning and excellence that prepares students for their professional, community, social, and personal lives.

  3. Graduate Scholarly Experience
    Kansas State University will create a culture of excellence that attracts highly talented, diverse graduate students and is recognized for producing graduates that are outstanding in their respective professions.

  4. Engagement, Extension, Outreach, and Service
    Kansas State University will be a national leader in and model for a re-invented and transformed public research land-grant university integrating research, education, and engagement.

  5. Faculty and Staff

  6. Facilities and Infrastructure
    University facilities and infrastructure will meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders at a level that is competitive to our benchmark institutions and serve as an asset to recruit and retain quality students, faculty, researchers, and staff.

  7. Athletics
    The interconnectivity between athletics and the campus community will be strengthened for their mutual benefit and to prepare our student-athletes for success in school, in sport, and after graduation.
